Santa Fe Green
Santa Fe, New Mexico is Green. The city’s new green building codes are some of the most progressive green codes in the US. These standards will improve our healthy lifestyle and assure efficient use of energy.
To assure you know about green lifestyle and green technologies, I recently earned the GREEN designation from the National Association of Realtors. GREEN opens a new world to the homeowner – improving your air quality, improving your energy efficiency, and lowering your carbon footprint.
The Sustainable Santa Fe Commission has prepared a community centered Sustainable Santa Fe Plan to include:
1. Mandatory Green Building Codes
2. Increase renewable energy
3. Energy efficiency and solar loan programs
4. Green job training
5. Green business development
6. Food policy to reduce food insecurity
7. Ecological adaptation to climate change
The 2030 Challenge asks builders to make their next project 50% more energy efficient than their last until the goal of net-zero energy homes becomes the standard of construction by 2030. See Architecture2030.org

Your green lifestyle begins by implementing:
- turn off unnecessary lights and appliances
- turn up thermostat 2 degrees in summer, lower 2 degrees in winter.
- use surge protectors that automatically turn off your computers, televisions, entertainment centers, when not in use.
- Go paperless / accounting, banking, pay bills
- Conduct an energy audit of your home and repair or upgrade your home systems – energy, plumbing, heating/cooling, insulation systems.
- Learn more about energy and appliance rebates and tax credits – local/state/federal government.
- Install CFLs – compact fluorescent bulbs.
- Stop drinking bottle water and reduce waste.
