Snowshoeing Santa Fe Style
Little did I know how aerobic snowshoeing can be, especially when you walk up Ravens Ridge with two women who marathon for fun. Good thing there was a Labrador around, he kept coming back down the trail to check on me.
The first mile and half was the hardest, I had to acclimate to 10,000 feet walking uphill with snowshoes, poles and a day pack. The trick was to find a pace where your heart was not beating to hard. I found stopping every ten minutes or so helped a lot.
Good thing the gals cheered me onward and upward. After about an hour or so we found ourselves on top of Ravens Ridge, in scattered clouds and fog, overlooking several valleys around Santa Fe Baldy and the Pecos Wilderness. We gave our praise to the Gods. Then had a good munch of apples with peanut butter.
Coming down was a breeze, now that I was warmed up. An hour later we were back down to the truck and heading into to Santa Fe for lunch at the Santa Fe Bar and Grill. I just love their tortilla soup and a cold beer.
Thanks to Jennifer and Maria for a fine day in the mountains!
