Green Standards in Santa Fe MLS

By Anthony • November 18th, 2009

Sally asked me, "how do I know what is green in a green home?"

I pointed out to Sally, "The Santa Fe Association of Realtors is adding a checklist of green building features to the MLS / Multiple Listing Service. This green checklist will benefit – Sellers, Buyers, Realtors, and Appraisers. The Green categories to include: resource efficiency, indoor environment quality, energy efficiency, water efficiency, green certifications."

Resource Efficiency categories include: Recycled content for building materials, materials from renewable resources, certified sustainably harvested wood, local indigenous materials.

Indoor Environmental Quality relates to the air quality in the home. The categories listed limits the amount of: mold, radon, carbon monoxide, material chemicals. Systems include: Air Filtration, Certified Green finishes.

Energy Efficiency categories include: lot orientation facing south, passive solar design, home insulation, solar systems – thermal hot water, thermal space heating, photovoltaics.

Green certification systems that monitor energy efficiency – Energy Star for appliances, windows and skylights. HERS rating for home performance relative to the green building code.

Water Efficiency catergories include: rainwater harvesting, greywater, low flow toilets & fixtures, xeriscaping.

Green Certifications include: Build Green New Mexico and LEED.
